Roma and Gent will grace the pitch of the mighty Stadio Olimpico on Thursday
Roma and Gent will grace the pitch of the mighty Stadio Olimpico on Thursday in a first leg from the Europa League 1/16-finals. Let’s take a look at this game in the Italian capital in our Europa League predictions.
Just as we expected, Roma passed the Europa League group stage and qualified for the 1/16-finals. The Wolves are one of the biggest contenders for the trophy, but it won’t happen if they don’t improve their current form. Roma are in a terrible shape at the moment as they lost four of their last five matches in all competitions. It’s pretty hard to explain what exactly happened to the Wolves, but one thing is for sure – this is a critical moment for the manager Paulo Fonseca.
On Saturday Roma lost again in the Serie A. Fonseca’s team travelled to Bergamo to face Atalanta and suffered a 1-2 defeat. Edin Dzeko opened the score for Roma, but after the break La Dea took the win with two goals in Pau Lopez’ net.
The manager Paulo Fonseca could make some changes for the game against Gent. Players like Cengiz Under, Aleksandar Kolarov, Carles Perez and Jordan Veretout started from the bench against Atalanta, but they might start on Thursday.
Gent won their Europa League without suffering a loss, which is impressive. The Belgians finished above the favourites Wolfsburg and Saint-Etienne, showing some good quality. They also show a solid shape in the Belgian First Division A, being unbeaten in their last five games and winning four of them. Few days ago they visited Eupen and enjoyed a 3-2 win.
These are our Europa League predictions for the first 1/16-finals leg between Roma and Gent at the Stadio Olimpico. We believe it’s going to be a competitive game, because we shall not underrestimate the Belgians. Let’s see!
